It’s no secret that I love using crystals, oracle cards, and other healing tools along with Reiki. For me, the two go hand in hand (pun intended).
In fact, I generally love doo-dads and thingamabobs in all areas of life. Simplistic and minimalist? Not quite my style.
But…… As much as I love working with many amazing tools, none are actually necessary for healing.
The only requirement for Reiki healing is intention. Either you intend to channel Reiki, you intend to receive Reiki, or both. That’s it.
Perhaps (one of) the reasons Reiki is so popular is because of how accessible, accommodating, and effective it is for people from all walks of life. While Reiki is traditionally channeled through the hands, it’s possible for Reiki to flow from any and all body parts, including the eyes, mind, and through the voice.
Reiki can be learned in just a few hours, and anyone can begin to practice Reiki with an attunement (from a Reiki Master) and some practice.
There is no magic secret to Reiki. No prerequisite beyond desire.
Want it? Do it.
Becoming well acquainted with Reiki may take weeks, months, or even years, or it may happen instantly. For some, it feels like ‘coming home’. Whatever the case, if you are called to Reiki, then it’s meant for you. No tools needed. No stripes to earn.
The beautiful thing about energy healing is that you can create your own perfectly unique amazing style by combining as many of your favourite aspects as you want. Define your own spirituality by doing what feels right for you.
In my case, this means using Reiki as a base for healing, then adding in crystals, animal wisdom, angel guidance, and direct spirit communication for powerfully gentle energy healing that creates massive life shifts and health transformations. It is important to honour and respect the fundamentals of your practice (for example, using Reiki symbols correctly, as you were taught), but once you are comfortable using Reiki, feel free to adapt and customize to your preferences.

I like your thought process, use reiki as the basis for healing and introduce crystals etc if you feel they enhance the healing. I like to keep it simple but am open to introducing other things if they resonate with me.
